where you can see traffic moving nicely into san francisco. and this is a look at the san mateo bridge where you can see the same story. traffic on the right heading toward the foster city. opposite side toward hayward. let's head over to dave and tori. >>> now we are hearing from neighbors in san francisco. those that were awakened by an early morning house fire and broken gas line. ktvu alex savidge is at the scene and i know you have video of flames shooting up from this broken pipe that you will only see right here on channel 2. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. this was a very tricky situation for san francisco firefighters. because not only did they have to contend with the fire that was burning inside this home, they also had to deal with a second fire coming from the curb side gas valve just outside the place. pg&e told me the fire from the home impacted the gas meter and this was not a faulty line. flames shot about 15 feel up in the air. crews had to focus on putting out the fire inside the home. eventually pg&e came in and shut off the gas line. the fire first s

desk. >>> developing news of a traffic stop accident in san francisco, it smashed a fire hydrant and -- and shut down essex street. you can see this is near the on ramp to the bay bridge happening right now. it shut down because water from a busted fire hydrants damage -- hydrant damaged scaffolding. a -- police were trying to pull over a man for being suspected of driving under the influence. that intersection will be closed until all of the damage particularly to that scaffolding is deemed safe. >>> in the meantime, a hit-and- run driver in the south bay, the victim of that incident has died from his injuries. jeanine della vega is at the intersection where all of this happened. gored morning jeanine -- good morning, jeanine. >> reporter: this is where the accident happened. this gas station here, fast food and a wall greens, there are lots of things here and police were here until 1:00 a.m. investigating. what we know is a man was crossing the intersection at 5:45 when police say he was hit by a dark banner suv. that vehicle stopped kept traveling southbound and the man was rushed

san francisco street and she was out begging for help. here is the latest on that woman and where was she going when she was trying to get help, claudine? >> reporter: we are still trying to get information on the woman and the condition of her baby and we are told supervisor will be willing to talk with us shortly so we are standing by for that. i want to show you video of the scene because this is where it all happened. we shot this video earlier this morning and what you are looking at is a 24 hour shelter. they don't have walk inns but the woman went up to the gate of that shelter bleeding and asking for help. a man who works there didn't want to go on camera but took us through what happened. >> she was crying, just looked like she was just beaten up covered in blood. she said she just had a baby and i didn't see a baby in her hand. i go for help and come back and she is walking off and that's when i called the police. >> reporter: he said he was not sure what to do and he went to go ask a co-worker what to do next and she walked off. he went to call 911 and he saw a man down the

together in buzzel street -- busel street right in the border of those neighborhoods in san francisco. a resident in the area spotted the couple and called police last night. both victims suffered trauma and police were not able to tell us whether they had been shot beaten or stabbed. we know where the couple was found and investigators are trying to figure out where the crime occurred. >> we are reaching out to the neighborhood and to the community to see if anybody has any information about where the investigation was to find out what happened. >> san francisco police are canvassing the neighborhood and one thing they are trying to find out, where were they injured or were they drafted off after they were assaulted. police are wondering if they have surveillance video and if they have seen anything unusual tip 411. they are waiting for the woman to improve and hopefully once she starts to improve they will be able to talk to her and get more from the investigation that way. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 morning news. >> your time now 6:03, sentencing for the woman convicted of killing m

season with 130,000 people expected to pass through san francisco international airport today. two million people are expect to come through this airport between now and january 6th. this is definitely a busy time of year. some travelers we talked to said they knew there would be high demand for the holiday flights. they knew it would be crowded before they got here. >> flying into san francisco is okay but flying back especially on this day it was twice the price. >> reporter: we just checked with the airport duty manager she tells us there are no cancellations to report this morning. when we did a quick check of the board, we could only find one flight that was delayed. that is a flight heading from sfo to philadelphia. it was delayed by an hour. most arrivals seem to be coming in on time as well. keep in mind all of this could change. there is rain heading south. it's not at sfo right now. any time you get the rainstorms and wind, it does tend to effect travel here at san francisco international airport. the advice is the same as always. check into your flights early. check ahea

between walnut creek and oakland. northbound 101 san francisco that traffic looks good. let's go back to the desk. >>> time now 6:01. repair crews and other crews are still at the scene of that big machine shop fire that happened yesterday. lorraine blanco is at cnh enterprises right now. firefighters are looking out for flairups out there. >> reporter: they are babysitting the smoke this morning. it's smoldering in the center of the building. that's what we are told this morning. you can see what is left is a gutted charred mess. these are the offices in the front of the building. management says they are working furiously to open a new location. it started in the warm springs company around 1:45 yesterday afternoon. the flames and smoke were so heavy and the chemicals inside the machine shop were so combustible firefighters had to battle it from the outside. all 80 or so employees got out safely but the building was destroyed. >> when you stop and think about something like this, it's like you know my personally my problems are trivial and i don't care about my problems. this is a whol

mop up. traffic is still being diverted to high street. traffic is moving nicely at san francisco at this hour and 280, not a lot of folks on the roadways, here is rosemary orozco. >>> our quiet weather is turning quite active by the afternoon and storm tracker 2 shows northern california has light rain and we have a sprinkle overhead. around parts of san pablo bay, we have some rain on and off and i am shifting but a moment ago i sawzall there. shifting -- i saw sal and shifting on and off, we saw showers. in and around the bridge we saw sprinkles into san francisco picking up rain clouds and sunset district into market and the downtown area we will remain mostly cloudy, just a few stray showers and steady rain is coming later with all the cloud cover acting as a blanket so it will not be as cold. low 40s in santa rosa it will be warmer and we are singing back into the mid-30s. 6:00 i want to show you that steadty line is out of the oakland bridge and by 2:00 in oakland you can expect to have that rain and by 5:00 everybody is getting wet and down into the south bay scattered shower

flowing nicely into san francisco at this hour. let's go back to the desk. >>> a west and rescue operation is underway and police say it all started when they pulled over a suspected drunk driver right near college avenue in fairfax. this is video from the scene we are just getting. the suspect just took off on foot and they saw the man jump into a nearby creek. search and rescue teams have been looking into the water and it is still unclear if he was in the was the he error -- water or if he did get away. >>> storm watch monitoring the borders of east palo alto and menlo park. janine de la vega joins us live from a creek that overflowed, good morning. >> reporter: well the san francisco creek has definitely receded and the water is flowing well but you see that mark, it was just below the white, a foot below that so it has definitely receded. let's go to video, you can see just how high water came up near the creek. it nearly crested at westshore bay road and there were several areas that flooded. police helped to keep many away from the rising water and many used sandbags to keep the wat

inspections that may not have happened. according to the san francisco chronicle the company suspects some workers lied about completing the inspections. eight employees have been fired or suspended. pg&e has hired 48 additional inspectors and they hope to have all the equipment checked by the end of the year. most of it is in southern alameda county and the south bay. >>> vallejo police are warning of a scam of a popular holiday gift. fake ipad sold on the street. tara moriarty joins us live. >> reporter: police say they found a stash of fake ipad boxes inside of a car. and they don't know exactly how much the person was intending to sell them for but they believe it was cheaper than what ipads normally go for which is between $300 and $800. inside of those boxes there was a replica ipad that was made out of a picture frame. it was wrapped with duct tape to mimic the back of similar ipad models. and to throw them off more it was wrapped in bubble wrap to hide its true feature. it's unknown where they were going to be sold. we are not sure if this was part of a larger ring. s

brawl that caused wide spread panic in a san francisco mall led to a loss in post christmas sales for business. they ran from the mall when they heard a noise that sounded like gunshots. police arrested three people. all the commotion led to a lock down and likely kept thousands of post christmas shoppers out of the mall. there is no estimate on how much money businesses lost but analyst tell the sacramento breeze it's like -- sacramento bee it's likely a significant amount. >>> janine de la vega is live for us in cupertino this morning. one of the places where a dui crack down starts today. >> reporter: that is right. starting tonight sheriffs deputies will be conducting a dui check point at an undisclosed intersection. which along here on stevens creek boulevard. that is one of many happening throughout the bay area tonight and through the weekend. the california highway patrol is already out checking for people celebrating the new years holiday a little too much and in fro mont police operated at dui check point last night and early into this morning. today state senator jerry hill

a look because you can see san francisco police are in the process of shutting down essex street. now the water has been shut off and we showed you that in the last half hour but there is a new problem. if we pan over here, take a look at the construction site. you can see the scaffolding is compromised with some of the metal beams going down. the firefighter said he is not sure if that is stable or if that structure is compromised so if they can get the construction guys out here to make sure that it's not about to fall, they have shut down this street and they don't know when it will reopen. let me show you video from when all of this happened because there was quite a mess out here. it was shotting an estimated 30 feet in the air and 50,000 gallons came out before they were able to shut it off. again it started with a driver running through a red light and that's what police are telling ktvu channel 2 morning news. it started when this driver tried to turn on to essex and folsom and crashed into that fire hydrant. we don't know the extent of his injuries but we have video of t

san francisco with no major problems. we also have a look at 280 and san jose and 101 and 285 are off to a great start and hopefully it will stay this way but as more people get on the road, you know how it goes, we will have some more troubled spots. here is weather, steve? >>> clouds increasing later on and low clouds mainly out to the valley but the coastal fog is also coming back. we will get some clouds and an overnight brief rain. this is a really thin system but it is going to turn much colder. overnight lows will be if i having more rain and cooler weather is definitely in the mix. our system is here and by the time it arrives it will not do much but this is not a rainy pattern and the snow will be more of a powdery type by the time it gets here. 50s for many and 60s with a brief rain and much colder. 36 in napa, 39 in santa rosa and petaluma and santa rosa is reporting fog so be careful. get used to these readings low clouds, fog, chilly lows or cold lows. mid-50s and very low 60s. >> brief morning rain and we will have colder here and it looks like rain returns on saturd
